I have made something delicious from nearly every culture in the book, and that is why I think we are a melting pot in America: we all like to eat great food, and no one cares where it originally came from. I like it presented this way, as you can choose a main dish, and then plan the rest of a complimentary menu to follow. ![]() A sketched map of the region, a short history lesson, and then the recipes follow each segment. The “foreign name,” or real name is given, along with an English translation. The wide variety of cooking, which the millions of immigrants have brought to the United Sates, is well represented here in Mr. ![]() ![]() This book certainly does not disappoint in this respect. And since I might be on this desert island a long, long time, well, I do like variety, after all. I’ll tell you why.Īs I already know the basics of cooking, I can leave my trusty “Betty Crocker’s Picture Cookbook” behind. An avid fan of his PBS television series’ in the 1990’s, I really looked forward to the hardbound companion cookbook, “The Frugal Gourmet On Our Immigrant Ancestors.” If I had to choose one cookbook to take along to be stranded on the proverbial desert island, it would be this one. ![]()
